Andy Clark threw eight strong innings and Jimmy Baker went three for three with a home run as the FlorenceFreedom hung on for a 4-3 win over the Normal Cornbelters in game two of their series at Champion Window Field in Florence, Kentucky.

Normal jumped on top with a run in the top of the first. Jeff Cowan led with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Florence shortstop Patrick Rose. Daniel Cox then reached on an infield single to move Cowan to third. Ross McCoy's fielder's choice grounder made it 1-0 Normal after one.

The Freedom would tie it in the bottom of the second, as Jimmy Baker connected for his seventh home run of the season off of Normal starter Andrew Guarassi (0-2).

The Cornbelters took the lead back at 2-1 in the fifth on a wild pitch from Clark (6-2), but the Freedom responded immediately in their half of the frame. Justin Pickett led with a double and was sacrificed to third by newcomer Matt Sanders. Billy Mottram then plated the run with a sacrifice fly for a 3-2 lead.

The Freedom added a run in the seventh inning. Baker led with a double, moved up on a Michael Wheeler flyout, and subsequently scored on a Justin Pickett sacrifice fly.

Ben Shivers came on in the ninth and allowed a pinch hit home run to Chad Rebecca, his first pro hit, but was able to rebound and retire the last two batters to seal the win.

Clark went eight innings to pick up the victory, allowing ten hits on two runs, walking none and striking out four. Shivers allowed one run and one hit, walking none and fanning two for his second save.

Guarrassi went six innings to take the loss for the Cornbelters, followed by Greg Lane, who worked the final two frames.

The series concludes on Friday night at Champion Window Field, as Florence's Sean Lydon opposes Normal's Bobby Pritchett. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
