Grizzlies Hang on for Win Over Otters

SAUGET, Ill.- Tim Clubb tossed eight strong innings Thursday night to lead the Gateway Grizzlies past the Evansville Otters 8-4 in game two of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.

Clubb allowed just four hits. He gave up two runs, one earned, and struck out four to improve to 5-3.

The Grizzlies (32-30) got on the board with a four-run fourth inning Thursday. Brandon Peters doubled to drive home a run to make it 1-0. Charlie Lisk added a sacrifice fly to stretch the lead to 2-0. Jason Patton capped the inning with a two-run home run, his fourth of the year.

The Grizzlies added a run in the fifth on a Gordie Gronkowski RBI single. The Grizzlies made it 8-0 with a three-run seventh inning. Donnie Ecker and Lisk added RBI singles in the inning. Peters drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Evansville (22-39) scored twice in the eighth against Clubb, and then added a pair of runs in the ninth against Grizzlies reliever Breck Draper. Jake Shafer struck out Otters' first baseman with the bases loaded to earn his fifth save of the year.

The Grizzlies and the Otters play the rubber game of the three-game series Friday night at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is 7:05 pm.
