FLORENCE, Ky - On the very afternoon, the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical solutions, arrived home from a ten-day today road-trip, the club announced that starting pitcher Zach Kirby has been traded to the Normal CornBelters for a player to be named later. This trade comes on the heels of Kirby tallying his first Freedom win in the finale against the Belters on Sunday night at the Corn Crib.

This season, Kirby is (1-4) on the mound, having appeared in nine games and making five starts with a 5.60 ERA. Sunday night, the Rochester, MA native spanned five shut-out innings allowing just two hits and striking-out four on the way to the first Freedom win of his career. In his best start on May 27, at Wild Things Park, the Framingham State College product carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before losing his bid and taking a no-decision. That night, the right-hander tossed six shut-out innings, allowing one hit and punching-out five. In two starts spanning 12.2 innings with the Freedom in 2017, Kirby totaled a 2.13 ERA.

"Zach is a quality starter, and we had six of them. So, from our team's standpoint we could use a player to be named later for a nice pickup down the stretch towards the playoffs," said Freedom manager Dennis Pelfrey. He continued, "Kirby is a great guy and a great fit for us, so it's a tough loss, but we feel it will be the best move for him and us as we move forward this season."

This is the fifth trade the Freedom have made since the end of 2017, and their second with the Normal CornBelters. During the off-season, Florence traded outfielder Andrew Godbold to Normal in exchange for catcher Craig Lepre.
