Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL, IL - CornBelter's starting pitcher Jack Landwehr received Frontier League Pitcher of the Week recognition for his stellar performance Wednesday night against the River City Rascals. Landwehr is the first CornBelter to receive this award since Charlie Gillies in August, 2017. This is the ninth time a CornBelter has won the honor.

The Frontier League rewards Landwehr after leading the CornBelters to a 12-3 victory over the River City Rascals in the second game of the series. After Normal scored 9 runs in the bottom of the first, Landwehr took control of the game from there. Throwing 2 strikeouts in the first innings, Landwehr would go on to throw 7 strikeouts before even giving up a hit. He began the game by retiring the first 14 batters he faced and ended up throwing 12 K's, a team high for the 2018 season, in 7 innings pitched.

The right-handed pitcher, who played locally at Illinois State University for four seasons, threw a no-hitter until Mike Jurgella singled with 2 outs in the top of the fifth inning. Landwehr would only give up one more hit (Clint Freeman double) in the top of the seventh for the entire ball game.

Jack Landwehr finished the game with: 7 innings pitched, 0 earned runs, 2 hits, 12 strikeouts, and 0 walks. He is the first CornBelter pitcher to throw double-digit strikeouts without giving up a walk since Cullen Babin threw 10 strikeouts to 0 walks in 2013.

Manager Billy Horn had this to say about the news "We (CornBelters) are very happy and excited for Jack. Jack is a great guy on and off the field and we are so glad that he is part of our organization."

Landwehr earned his first career win against the Rascals and is now 1-2 on the season with a 2.53 earned run average in 32 innings pitched, throwing a staggering 25 strikeouts to 6 walks.
