Bakersfield Condors News Release

With 16 days remaining until the official drop of the puck on the 2004-05 ECHL season, Bakersfield Condors fans can only wonder what the season has to offer. But what is revealed in this promotional schedule is the key to a successful and fun-filled second campaign in the ECHL.

The compilation of events includes 19 dates that have a promotion new to CondorsTown, starting with an Olympic Celebration Opening Weekend. The Condors will give away replica gold medals commemorating Kern County's Olympic athletes on October 23rd, with a special appearance scheduled. On November 12th, the Condors will send shockwaves across the promotional horizon with the debut of Little E - the world's (ahem) smallest Elvis Impersonator, performing songs and signing autographs throughout the night. On December 18th the Condors will make their bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by staging an attempt for the world's largest pillow fight. Fans are asked to bring a pillow to the game, engage in a fluffy-soft slugfest during an intermission, and then throw their pillows onto the ice for donation to the Bakersfield homeless shelter. Currently, the World Record for pillow fight participants is 1,074 people.

The December 28th game features Harry Potter Night, including Harry Potter folder giveaway and a look-alike contest. On New Year's Eve the Condors will host their first Tux and Pucks Night - inviting fans to turn the December 31st game into a formal affair. Unrelated but similarly named Nip and Puck Night will feature a giant giveaway of a personal makeover that includes plastic surgery among other procedures. On February 12th, the Condors will give away samples of brand-new shiny California quarters as part of the Commemorative State Quarter series, complete with collector's cases.

The regular season ends in style with Condors Mr. Potato Head giveaway, the first visit to Centennial Garden for Dora the Explorer and a Home Makeover Giveaway during the final three games. The Home Makeover includes a free patio or sunroom.

Among returning favorites on the docket are the ZOOperstars, with two appearances this season on October 23rd and March 11th. One bobblehead night is planned on January 28th and SpongeBob Squarepants emerges from his pineapple under the sea to return to the Garden on February 26th. There will be four Student ID Nights this season as well, again offering junior high, high school and college students and opportunity to purchase tickets for just $1.

Charity and collection nights are a mainstay at Condors games, and will again dominate the schedule. The annual Teddy Bear Toss has made an indelible impression on the youth of Kern County, and on those who have been a witness to the spectacle. On November 27th fans will have the chance to break last season's record of 6,179 stuffed animals donated. Three jersey raffle and auctions are interspersed through the season, with the first on November 13th, another on January 1st and the last on March 18th. The game worn jersey auctions have brought in over $200,000 in team history. Coat collection, canned food drive and Condors Fighting Cancer nights are also planned.

"To say we're excited about our promotions for this season would be a colossal understatement," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "It would be emotionally impossible for fans to not have a good time at our games. Did I mention that season tickets are now on sale?"

The 2004-05 Bakersfield Condors season opens in 16 days at home on October 22nd against the expansion Victoria Salmon Kings. Ticket packages are on sale now for as low as $30. Contact the BSE office at 324-PUCK (7825) for more information.
