Frederick Keys News Release

For the fifth night in a row, the Frederick Keys tallied double-digit hit totals. For the second night in a row, the Keys won. Frederick defeated the Salem Avalanche tonight, in the opener of a three-game series, 6-3.

The Avalanche scored first in the top of the first inning. Rightfielder Jordan Parraz walked, stole second, and scored on a Mark Ori RBI-single to put Salem out in front, 1-0.

The Keys got the run back immediately in the bottom of the first when Danny Figueroa led off with his first homerun of the season, tying the game at one. Figueroa ended up going 4-5 with a triple as well.

The Keys tacked on another run in the second. Miguel Abreu and Ryan McCarthy hit back-to-back singles. With the two runners on the corners, Mike Pierce grounded into a double play, scoring Abreu, and making it 2-1 Frederick.

In the third, Brandon Snyder led things off with an infield single. Brandon Tripp then doubled to the wall in center. One batter later, Billy Rowell grounded out to short. It scored Snyder and extended the Keys lead to two.

The Avalanche started to chip away though against Keys starter Jake Renshaw. In the fourth, Colin DeLome walked, stole second, and scored on Orlando Rosales' RBI-double. Then in the fifth, with runners on second and third, Mark Ori grounded out to second, scoring a run, and tying the ball game at three.

The Keys re-took the lead, however, in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded and two men out, Ryan McCarthy hit a two-run single to put the Keys back out in front 5-3. Frederick would tack on another run in the seventh, when McCarthy drove in Abreu with an RBI-single making the score 6-3. McCarthy finished going 3-4 with three runs batted in.

Renshaw got the win, evening his record to 9-9. Bass got the loss, dropping to 4-12. Ryan Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his second save of the season.

The two clubs will square off again tomorrow evening at Harry Grove Stadium. It's Guaranteed Win Tuesday at the ballpark. If the Keys lose, each fans' ticket will be good for a future Monday through Thursday regular season home game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
