Frederick, MD-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, saw Frederick place 17 hits on the board Monday night in a 6-3 series-opening win at Harry Grove Stadium. Frederick (17-27) now owns the season high for an opponent in the hit column against Salem (15-27).

Each team scored in the first with Salem beginning the offensive. As Jordan parraz stood at second, Mark Ori smoked a single to center that scored the first run of the game. Frederick countered quickly, though, with a solo home run from Danny Figueroa-one of four hits on the night--to begin the home half of the inning.

Frederick plated a single run in each of its next two at-bats to nab a 3-1 lead. Immediately after, Salem jumped into action with a two-out run in the fourth. With Collin DeLome at second, Orlando Rosales doubled to left to slice the lead in two. The Avalanche subsequently tied the game in the fifth as Ori turned in an RBI groundout to score Kevin Carkeek.

Frederick, though, continued to pound away with a two-out charge in the fifth. The bases were loaded when Ryan McCarthy stroked a single to center to score a pair and hand the Keys the lead. The final run came across on another McCarthy hit, a single that plated Miguel Abreu.

The Keys attacked for 17 hits in the game, the largest total for an opponent in 2008. Keys center fielder Danny Figueroa fell a double shy of the cycle in a four-hit night.

The Avalanche and Keys play again Tuesday as righty Erick Abreu faces Frederick's Brandon Erbe.
