Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV. - Wheeling Nailer Goaltender Andy Franck has been named to the American Conference roster for the ECHL All-Star Game next Tuesday in Fresno, California. Franck was also named runner up for the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goalie of the Week for Jan. 9-15. It is the third time this season that Franck has been named a runner-up for the award.
Franck, a rookie from Lakewood, Ohio, will be joining teammate Sean Collins at the All-Star Game next week. Kurtis McLean was selected as a starter but is currently in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL). Franck is currently 4th in the ECHL in Goals Against Average (2.21) and his 16 wins puts him 3rd in that category among ECHL net minders. The former Mercyhurst Laker is coming off his 2nd professional shutout in his last contest. Sunday in Wheeling's 5-0 victory over Trenton, Franck stopped 26 shots to wrap up a 3-1-0 week. Franck began the week stopping 20 shots in a 5-1 road win against Reading. Friday night he was the key with 26 saves in a 3-1 home win against Toledo. For the week he went 3-1-0 with a 1.26 GA. Over the last 9 games, Franck is 6-3-0 with a 1.81 GA.
This has been a busy week for Franck not only with the honors bestowed upon him, but he also signed a contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Franck made the roster out of training camp after recording 43 wins at Mercyhurst.
The North Division leading Nailers return home on January 27th for a 3-game home weekend. The weekend will feature Nailers Trading Card Giveaway Night, Pittsburgh Pirate Caravan Night, and Mascot Night at WesBanco Arena.
