Chiefs Beat Royals

Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs finally solved the Reading Royals. After losing all four previous meetings, all in Johnstown, with the Royals, the Chiefs went ahead early, and pulled away for a 5-1 win.

Morgan Cey was nearly unbeatable in net, stopping 33 shots, including 12 in the third period. Cey improved to 7-4-4 on the season.

Justin Kelly, Doug Andress, and Randy Rowe had multi-point games.

Andress had a goal, including the game winner, and three assists. At 11:34 of the 2nd period, Andress beat Royals goalie, Futaka Fukufuj with a wrister from the slot. It was Andress's 2nd goal of the year.

Randy Rowe scored the Chiefs first goal, at 10:41 of the first period. Rowe poked home a Doug Andress rebound to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Rowe also put the game out of reach, burying a feed from Justin Kelly at 13:33 of the third period to make it 4-1.

Justin Kelly was the third Chiefs to have a multi-point game. Kelly added a goal and an assist.

Newly acquired, Brad Thompson capped of the scoring with 1:53 left, when he banged home a Doug Andress rebound.

The Chiefs were 1-7 on the power play, while keeping the Royals scoreless in six attempts. The win improved the Chiefs record to .500, at 15-15-8.

The Chiefs are back in action Friday night in Toledo. The puck drops at 7:05, the pre-game show on the Chiefs radio network and the B2 networks begins at 6:45 pm.
