Fourth Quarter Rally Sends Jam Past Energy

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF., February 19, 2015 - The Bakersfield Jam (25-10) rallied from nine points down in the fourth to beat the Iowa Energy (16-15) 118-112 Thursday night at the Dignity Health Event Center. Jerel McNeal led the way for the Jam with a game-high in points (23), assists (9) and steals (6).

There were a total of 23 lead changes and 11 ties in the game, making it a hard fought match for both teams. In the first period, the Jam shot 33.3 percent from the floor and trailed 27-23 after one quarter of play. Despite getting their offensive rhythm back and shooting 60.9 percent from the field in the second frame, Bakersfield went into the break with a three-point deficit (59-56).

The third quarter ended with both teams knotted up at 89. Iowa jumped out to an 11-2 run to start the fourth and led 103-94 at the 8:45 mark. From that point on, the Jam outscored the Energy 24-9 the rest of the way thanks to great team effort and execution on both ends of the floor. Down the stretch, McNeal converted key free-throws to help seal the home victory for Bakersfield.

Earl Barron (20 points, 15 rebounds) and Joe Jackson (19 points, 13 rebounds) finished the night with a double-double apiece for the Jam. Jamil Wilson (13) and Xavier Munford (11) each scored in double-figures off the bench.

The Energy were paced by Kalin Lucas (22 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds) and Chris Allen (22 points, 6 assists). Larry Owens tallied 20 points.

Bakersfield will next travel to Idaho to take on the Stampede on Saturday, February 21 at 6:00 p.m. PT.
