Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - Four former Portland Winterhawks are competing in the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Winterhawks are one of seven WHL Clubs to have four or more alumni playing for Lord Stanley's Cup, showcasing the Portland to the Pros connection which has seen 130 Winterhawks alumni play in the NHL.

Nino Niederreiter - Carolina Hurricanes

Seth Jarvis - Carolina Hurricanes

Matt Dumba - Minnesota Wild

Ryan Johansen - Nashville Predators

The Carolina Hurricanes won the Metropolitan Division with plenty of help from former Winterhawks Nino Niederreiter and Seth Jarvis. Niederreiter, 29, boasts his highest goal (24) and point (44) totals since the 2016-17 season and is preparing for his fourth consecutive playoff run with the Hurricanes. The Swiss sniper was a playoff performer during his time in Portland, tallying 43 points in 34 WHL postseason games. Jarvis, 20, will compete for the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career. The former Winterhawks MVP will be in the mix to win the NHL's Rookie of the Year honors and enters the Stanley Cup Playoffs as one of the hottest forwards in the game, finishing the regular season with seven points in his last seven games to put him at 40 points during his rookie campaign.

In Minnesota, Matt Dumba and the Wild prepare for their seventh Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance in the last eight years. The former Winterhawk represented the Wild as an alternate captain this season, posting 27 points in 57 games. During the 2014 WHL Playoffs, Dumba caught fire in what was his last junior hockey season with 18 points in 21 games to help lead the Winterhawks to a Western Conference Championship.

Ryan Johansen, 29, is eyeing his seventh consecutive postseason appearance with the Nashville Predators. Through 63 Stanley Cup Playoff games, the Vancouver, B.C. native has produced 52 points. In 2011, he helped lead the Winterhawks to a Western Conference Championship during his final year in the Rose City.

As the Winterhawks prepare for the second round of the 2022 WHL Playoffs, the Stanley Cup news provides a good reminder that the Western Conference Semifinal will be rich with NHL-caliber talent on both the Winterhawks' side and their opponent (whether they play Kamloops or Seattle).

All four Winterhawks were selected in the first-round of their respective NHL Draft. The Winterhawks would like to congratulate our NHL alumni on terrific regular seasons and we wish them good luck in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.
