Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants are pleased to announce that 2003-born forward/Ottawa Senators prospect Zack Ostapchuk (St. Albert, AB) has been named WHL Player of the Week.
In three games last week, the first-year captain of the Vancouver Giants posted two goals and five assists for seven points. Six of those points (2G, 4A) came on Friday night in a historic 11-6 home victory over the Everett Silvertips in Game 4. Ostapchuk then added an assist on Saturday during a 3-2 Game 5 victory for the Giants. He currently sits tied for the team lead in playoff scoring with two goals and nine assists for 11 points.
Now in his third full season in the WHL, the 6'3" forward has appeared in 132 career regular season games for the Giants. In that span he's managed 38 goals and 29 assists for 67 points. He led the Giants in 2021-2022 with 24 goals.
"All season long Zack Ostapchuk has led our team with both his actions and his words, and he's taken his game to even greater heights so far in the playoffs," said Giants General Manager Barclay Parneta. "We're happy to see Zack recognized for his success at the league level."
Tonight at the Langley Events Centre, Zack Ostapchuk and his teammates look to punch their ticket to Round 2 of the WHL Playoffs when they battle the Everett Silvertips in Game 6. A win for the Giants would give them a series victory, marking the first time in the history of the WHL that an eighth seed has defeated a top seed in Round 1 of the WHL playoffs since the league's playoff format shifted in 2002.
