Boyds, MD - Four Washington Spirit players - Rose Lavelle (USA), Mallory Pugh (USA), Rebecca Quinn (CAN) and Taylor Smith (USA) - are included on the official list of allocated players for the 2018 National Women's Soccer League season, announced today by the league office.
A total of 34 players - 23 Americans and 11 Canadians - will be participating as Federation Players in the upcoming season. Smith and Quinn are among six players around the league who are newly allocated by their respective federations for the upcoming NWSL season.
Lavelle enters her first season as a member of the Spirit, after being selected No. 1 in the NWSL Dispersal Draft on January 30. The 22-year-old midfielder has scored two goals over the course of her first seven appearances with the senior U.S. national team.
Pugh heads into her second season with the Spirit after leading the club with six goals during a standout rookie campaign in 2017. She has recorded 30 career caps with the senior U.S. team, scoring six goals, and her 12 career assists are the most before the age of 20 in U.S. history.
Quinn was selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft out of Duke University. She represented Canada in the 2016 Rio Olympics, helping lead the team to the bronze medal. The 22-year-old has 33 career international caps, including 15 starts. She has scored three goals and assisted two others so far in her young career with the senior national team.
Smith, a 24-year-old from Fort Worth, Texas, joined the Spirit via trade from the North Carolina Courage on January 16. She represented the U.S. at the U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels before earning her first call-up to the senior team in 2017.
