Sussex County Miners News Release
Augusta NJ - The Sussex County Miners (20-9) earned their fifth straight victory, defeating the Washington Wild Things (13-18) by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday night. Once again, both starting pitchers dominated the early part of the game. Both Mike Castellani and Ryan Hennen had great command of all of their pitches, leading to a scoreless game going into the sixth inning.
The Wild Things took the 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth thanks to a RBI single from Hector Roa, followed by a error in the outfield that allowed a second run to score on the play. The Miners responded in the bottom half of the inning, returning the favor with four runs to regain the lead. RBI knocks from Juan Kelly, Audy Ciriaco and John Jones gave the Miners a 4-2 advantage going into the seventh inning. Castellani had another scoreless inning before manager Bobby Jones went to the bullpen. Two clean innings from Jalen Miller Sr. and Michael Mediavilla put the game away, giving the Miners another excellent victory at home.
Miners starter Mike Castellani had another brilliant outing, pitching seven strong innings, only giving up seven hits and one earned run. The left handed pitcher now has a 4-1 record on the season with a 4.58 era. Miller Sr. and Mediavilla came out of the Miners bullpen to finish off the game for the home team.
On the other side, Ryan Hennen had another solid start for the Wild Things. The left handed started went six and 1/3, giving up nine hits and four earned runs. Hennen drops to 4-1 record on the season with a 1.73 era.
