Four run sixth downs Otters
August 5, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
The Otters scored a run in the top of the third inning. With one out Frank Scott walked. He stole second on a pitch that struck out Steve Martin. With the two outs, Denver Stuckey lined a pitch into right-centerfield for a single that scored Scott to put Evansville up 1-0.
The lead was short-lived however, as the ThunderBolts put runners on second and third with one out in the bottom half of the inning. Justin Schuda hit a sinking liner to right that Trask Munoz made a spectacular diving catch. The catch turned the Schuda play into a sacrifice fly instead of a two run single, knotting the game at 1-1.
The Otters took a 3-1 lead in the fifth thanks to some shaky defense from Windy City. Following a single by John Coker and a walk by Frank Scott, Steve Martin hit a ball off the glove of Clemente Bonilla to score Coker and move Scott to third. Stuckey then drove in his second run of the game with a sac fly to give the Otters their second run of the inning.
After Cody Blackard went through the ThunderBolts in order in the fifth inning, Jason Crosland reached on an error in the sixth. That snowballed Windy City into a four run inning, keyed by a two run single by Matt Ferrara as the T-Bolts took a 5-3 lead.
Preston Simms (5-1) went seven innings in the win for Windy City. Cody Blackard (4-3) suffered the loss for the Otters.
The Otters now start at three game set at Gateway. Brian Kroll (2-4) will get the start for Evansville against Eric Dessau (3-3) for the Grizzlies. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 91.5, WUEV.
