
Mavericks rally past Roosters

Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters were defeated by Mid-Missouri 6-4 on Thursday night despite out-hitting the Mavericks 10-7. The game was tied at 2-2 after eight innings, but Mid-Missouri scored four runs in the ninth to take the lead. Richmond got a pair of runs in its last at-bat but fell short.
The Roosters got on the board first, scoring a pair of runs in the second inning. Kevin White led off with a walk, and then scored on a single by Kiley Vaughn to open the scoring. Justus Kimbrough scored another run when he came home on a double by Mike Bidwell that bounced off the wall in left-center. That gave Richmond a 2-0 lead that would last until the top of the sixth when the Mavericks would score two runs of their own. Josh Wettlaufer scored on a Dusty Hillman single and Alex Derhak scored on a passed ball by the catcher to tie the game at 2-2.
The game was tied until the top of the ninth when Mid-Missouri managed to push four runs across the plate. Thomas Bowker had a two-run double, Josh Wettlaufer had a RBI single while Alex Derhak hit a sacrifice fly to center to score another. The Mavericks led 6-2 going into the bottom of the ninth but the Roosters would attempt to rally. Kiley Vaughn led off with a double to right center, and then scored on a single by Dick Daly, Jr. Nate Gravley singled in another run with a single to right, but Mike Reese struck out to end the inning and even the series at a game apiece. Kris Regas (2-3) took the loss while Cooper Eddy (2-4) earned the win for Mid-Missouri.
The Roosters (32-33) will look to take the series with a win on Friday at McBride Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Matt Schweitzer (5-5, 3.41 ERA) will toe the mound for Richmond and be opposed by Nick Renault (6-4, 4.43 ERA).
