Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things (42-24), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, defeated the Rascals 7-4 Friday in front of another sell out crowd of 3,304. This is the Wild Things' ninth consecutive victory. The Wild Things swept the Rascals twice both home and away and the Mid-Missouri Mavericks away.
The Rascals scored first when Kirk McConnell tripled and drove in David Arnold. Then Rafael Ornelas hit a fly out to left field to drive in McConnell.
Washington answered in the fourth inning when Mike Arbinger hit a home run driving in Chris Carter. Randy McGarvey singled, Ryan McGraw walked, T.J. Graves singled, and McGarvey scored when David Reaver grounded into a double play.
In the fifth Matt Swope singled, continuing his streak with hits in 26 consecutive games. He then stole second and advanced to third on an error. Swope scored when Chris Carter flied out to left field.
River City scored two more runs in the top of the sixth when Jake Manning hit a two run homerun.
Washington answered in the bottom of the sixth with another run when T.J. Graves drove in McGarvey.
The Wild Things ensured their victory in the eighth with two final runs when Graves drove in McGarvey again and Reaver drove in Graves.
J.D. Cockroft (3-3) got his third victory, pitching six innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He walked five and struck out two. Mike Grady and Jim Popp combined for the final three innings. Popp gets his 12th save of the season.
The Wild Things meet the Mid-Missouri Mavericks for the first of a three game series Saturday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Air time on WJPA 95.3 FM and www.msasports.net is 6:55 p.m. Fans will be treated to a fireworks display following the game, courtesy of Washington Auto Mall.
