Washington Wild Things News Release
The Riverhounds FC tied the Wilmington Hammerheads Friday night at Legion Stadium in Wilmington North Carolina. The Hounds had the early lead, but couldn't hold on, taking their record to 5-9-2.
The Riverhounds got on the board first in the 24th minute when Vincente Bastidas came up with the ball after a flurry of effective moves by speedy striker David Flavius. Bastidas' blast from 23 yards settled into the left corner of the net, well out of reach of Hammer keeper Jordan James.
While Wilmington's defense, led by Montae Seabrook's stellar aerial play, stymied several chances, the offense started to click only after intermission. Finally, in the 65th minute, defender Kevin Nylen, inserted as a forward, came up with a deflection and executed a pretty turnaround shot that landed in the left side of the net.
Wilmington had a goal called back in the 73rd minute after officials determined that Riverhounds' keeper Chris Robinson had possession.
The final 15 minutes were characterized by physical play on both sides, and both teams received 3 cautions apiece.
The Riverhounds travel to Charlotte following the match. They will be the Charlotte Eagles Saturday when kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
