Four Pitchers Shutout Snakes

Collecting only five hits for a second straight game the Calgary Vipers were defeated 6-0 by the Edmonton Capitals before 2559 fans at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta. Being shutout for the second time this season the Vipers left 12 runners on base including three in scoring position in the first three innings. With the loss the Snakes have dropped consecutive games and fall to 21-9 on the second half for a five game lead in the North Division. Overall Calgary's record is now 44-29 on the Golden Baseball League season.

Mac Suzuki (1-1) took the loss after giving up two earned runs in six innings on four walks and three hits.

Edmonton opened the scoring in the third inning as Nick Valdez, Chris Little, and Ryan Stevenson walked to load the bases, Enrique Cruz singled to drive in a run, and Alex Prieto also walked for a run batted in and a 2-0 lead.

The Capitals added a run in the fifth for a 3-0 advantage as Stevenson singled, Cruz reached on a throwing error, and Tom Collaro hit a sacrifice fly.

In the seventh frame Edmonton added on when Valdez reached on a throwing error, Alex Chavez singled, and Collaro hit a three-run shot for a 6-0 lead.

This six-game series in Edmonton against the Capitals continues on Saturday August 21st at 7:00 PM MDT, a double-header Sunday August 22nd at 2:00 PM MDT, and Monday August 23rd at 7:00 PM MDT.

The Snakes return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Thursday August 26th at 7:05 PM MDT against the Victoria Seals for Chick Wagon Night, Friday August 27th at 7:05 PM MDT for Small Town Spirit Night, Saturday August 28th at 5:05 PM MDT for Winnipeg Night, and Sunday August 29th at 1:35 PM MDT for Fan Appreciation Day.
