Purple Night: Strike out Pancreatic Cancer

August 21, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

Tonight the Orange County Flyers will don special purple jerseys as the team looks to "Strike Out Pancreatic Cancer" presented by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network of Orange County. The Flyers face the Yuma Scorpions tonight in the third game of a three-game series at Goodwin Field in Fullerton with first pitch at 7:05pm. All game-worn purple jerseys will be available during an in-game silent auction for fans to bid on with proceeds going to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

The Flyers will be throwing Mark Prior out of the bullpen tonight. In four appearances with Orange County, Prior has struck out 13 of the 24 batters he has faced and has not allowed an earned run.

Orange County is coming off not only a second straight shutout of the Yuma Scorpions, but a second consecutive game in which the Flyers pitching staff matched the franchise record with 17 strikeouts. Starter Jesse Smith fanned a career-best 10 batters over six innings, and Cha-Seun Baek and Jake Renshaw combined for two perfect relief innings and three strikeouts. Former Major League Matt Riley, making his Flyers debut last night, struck out four batters in the ninth inning to bring the team total to 17. OC pushed its current win streak to a franchise record-tying 10 straight games. Sergio Pedroza added his team-leading 12th homerun, his second longball of the series.

Orange County is in its final regular-season homestand, and tickets for all games are still available by going to the team's website www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com or by calling (714) 526-8326 to reserve a seat.
