Four Mallards Selected for Home Run Derby

Madison, Wis. - While a total of eight Mallards will be featured in the 2018 Northwoods League All-Star game next week in Kalamazoo, four of them will take part in the Home Run Derby festivities. Tyler Plantier (Richmond), who leads the division with 11 home runs, Trevor Schwecke (UW-Milwaukee), David Vinsky (Northwood) and Jake Randa (NW Florida State) all have been selected for the derby.

The Mallards have the most competitors in the event and currently lead the NWL in dingers with 41. Plantier leads the squad with 11 while Vinsky and Schwecke both have five bombs and Randa has totaled four. The Home Run Derby will get underway at 5:30 PM in Kalamazoo on July 24 while the All-Star game will start at 7:30 PM. The format for the Home Run Derby is below:

- There will be 9 innings with each player having one half inning.

- Away team (North) player bats first in the top of the inning, and home team player next (South) in the bottom half of the inning.

- Each player will have one half inning at bat that will consist of 6 outs

- The player with the most home runs at the end of the 9 innings, will be the Home Run Derby Winner

- The team (North or South) with the most home runs will be announced as the winner of the team competition.

Plantier, Vinsky, Schwecke and Randa will be joined by their South Division counterparts Brody Wofford (Wisconsin Rapids), Jonathon Foster (Kalamazoo), Jack-Thomas Wold (Wisconsin Rapids), Zach Daniels (Kalamazoo) and Niko Kavadas (Kalamazoo) in the South half of the derby.

Tonight, the Mallards will take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at Witter Field. The Mallards will return home on Friday to take on the Rafters at 7:05 PM. Gates will open at 5:30 PM and the game features Pyrotechniq Fire Troupe and Wisconsin Lottery Night. For tickets and more information visit mallardsbaseball.com.
