Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, WI. - The host Green Bay Bullfrogs (19-32, 7-8) got off to an early 3-0 start in the second inning and never looked back, securing their fourth consecutive victory with an 8-2 triumph over the visiting Battle Creek Bombers (24-26, 8-7) at Joannes Stadium Thursday evening. The Bullfrogs improve to 3-2 against the Bombers this season.

The Frogs scratched across three runs in the second inning to take an early 3-0 advantage. Green Bay scored first on a Battle Creek error followed by a RBI double from Blake Nelson (Junior, Michigan) and RBI ground out by Matthew Acosta (Sophomore, USC).

Battle Creek cut the deficit down to 3-1 with a sacrifice fly from Zach Gartner in the visiting half of the sixth. The Bullfrogs answered with a four-spot in the bottom of the sixth inning to stretch the lead out to 7-1. Green Bay's scoring surge began with two runs scoring on an error before Acosta's two-run single extended the advantage out to four runs.

Green Bay added an insurance run in the seventh inning as Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-1. The Bombers notched one run in the ninth on a RBI single from Roman Trujillo, but it would not be enough as the Frogs held on for the six-run victory.

Andre Antone (Freshman, UC Irvine) finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Luke Robinson (Sophomore, Western Carolina) and Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) both went 2-for-4. Nelson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Acosta contributed a 1-for-5 effort with a team-high three runs driven in.

Bullfrogs starting pitcher and Northwoods League All-Star Leo Perez (Freshman, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) earned the win, improving to 4-1. Perez posted a terrific start, tossing seven innings with no earned runs allowed on three hits and five strikeouts. Battle Creek starter Michael McCraith took the loss, falling to 3-3.

Both teams conclude the two-game series tomorrow night. First pitch is slated for a 7:05 p.m. start from Joannes Stadium.
