Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Sauget, IL - Justin Schuda popped a pair of homers for the 2nd straight night and Jason Crosland and Donnie Poles added solo shots of their own at GMC Stadium Sunday night as the ThunderBolts edged the Gateway Grizzlies 10-9.
The Bolts skipped out to a 5-1 advantage after Nick Ewen singled Doug Schutt home. Then came Schuda's first dinger, a 3-run blast. Crosland followed right after with his long ball.
The ThunderBolts scratched out a couple more in the 4th on a Clemente Bonilla single and Jose Gutierrez's 7th RBI of the season. Gateway punched a run home in each of the next 2 frames to send the score to 7-3. Oscar Vargas blasted a 3-run dinger in the 7th to draw the Grizzlies within a single run.
A second Bonilla RBI single in the 8th extended the lead to 2 and Schuda and Poles teed off for solo shots in the 9th against Gateway reliever Ryan Hamilton.
In the bottom of the frame, the Grizzlies loaded the bases with one out, but Chris Hayes entered and sent the next two batters away to retire the side.
In the 9th, the Grizzlies pushed a trio across, but Lenny Bays closed the game for the Bolts. He induced a Jimmy Reiter groundout with a runner at 1st and two out.
Scott Anderson nabbed the win for the Bolts, his 3rd of the season. He tossed 5 innings and two-thirds after a 165-pitch effort Tuesday night. The Bolts have now scored double figures against Gateway in 3 straight games. Windy City is 6-4 against Gateway, the 3rd-place team in the West Division.
Mike Renery makes the start tomorrow against the Grizzlies. He got the win against River City Wednesday after 8 innings. He retired the first 12 batters he faced. You can find every pitch at www.sportsjuice.com starting at 7:05.
