Wild Things Sweep Roosters Again

Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters lost their seventh consecutive game Saturday night, falling 10-4 to the Washington Wild Things. The Wild Things completed a three-game sweep of the Roosters by scoring seven straight runs late in the game. Richmond has continued its slide and has now lost 15 of the last 16 games.

The Roosters got on the board with one run in the first. Nate Gravley got a base hit and later scored on an error by the third baseman. Each team scored three runs in the third to keep Richmond at a one-run lead. Lance Koenig, Chris Carter each had RBI while another run scored on an error for Washington. Gravley scored the first run of the third for Richmond on a throwing error by the catcher. Two more runs scored when Kevin White crushed a two-run homer to right-center.

Richmond led 4-3 after three innings, but the wheels fell off after the fifth when the Wild Things scored three runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and two in the ninth. David Reaver and Lance Koenig each had RBI hits while T. J. Graves and Chris Sidick both had two-run triples. That put Washington on top for good at 10-4. Mike Grady (3-2) threw three innings of relief for the win while Corey Ohalek (2) pitched four innings for the save. Tony Casoli (7-6) went five-plus innings for Richmond and gave up six runs in the loss.

The Roosters will begin a three-game series against the Chillicothe Paints on Sunday to continue Richmond's nine-game home stand. The first pitch will be thrown at 4:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Matt Schweitzer (6-8, 4.07 ERA) will get the start for Richmond against Luke Palmer (6-5, 4.55 ERA) of Chillicothe.
