Augusta Lynx News Release
Columbia, SC - The Columbia Inferno scored four third-period goals to down the Augusta Lynx 6-3 at the Frank McGuire Arena on Tuesday night.
Lucas Drake netted the hat trick as the Inferno scored four power play goals en route to the win. Mike Jarmuth, Drake, Owen Fussy (two goals) and Drake again finished off the Lynx in the third after a close pair of periods. The battle began at the 9:29 mark of the opening frame on a Shane Hynes goal, assisted by Ryan Lang and Nathan Saunders to make it 1-0. Joe Cardarelli added his fourth goal of the year from Jason Platt and Mike Erickson at 12:39 for a two-goal cushion, with Platt's tape-to-tape pass finding a wide open Cardarelli at the side of the Inferno net.
Columbia came back with a power play goal of their own to cap the first period, Drake's first of the night at 14:43.
Heading into the second period, Augusta faced a five-on-three situation thanks to a pair of late penalties in the opening frame. Dave McKee was whistled for the latter penalty and made up for it with a spectacular save on Alex Foster's one-timer from point blank range to keep the Inferno off the board despite the advantage.
Using the momentum from the penalty kill, the Lynx went down ice and grabbed the two-goal lead once again as J.B. Bittner extended his point scoring streak to six games with his fourth goal of the year from Garrett Bembridge and Dirk Southern at 2:26.
Columbia would once again cut the lead in half, this time with an Owen Fussey goal at 12:14 for a 3-2 count after 40 minutes of play.
The Inferno finished the night 4-for-10 with the man advantage, while Augusta went 1-for-8.
The Lynx will now head home to rest for two days before getting back to action at home against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:35 pm for Military Appreciation Night, with a special visit from the Zooperstars!
