
Steelheads' Silverthorn Named Rbk Hockey Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Steve
Silverthorn of the Idaho Steelheads is the Rbk Hockey ECHL
Goaltender of the Week for Oct. 30-Nov. 5.
The 25-year-old was 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 2.59 and a save
percentage of .928 as Idaho swept its home-opening series against West
Division rival Utah, improving to 7-1-0 and moving into first place in the
ECHL with 14 points.
After making 36 saves in regulation and two in overtime before stopping all
three shootout attempts in a 6-5 win on Friday, Silverthorn had 19 saves in
a 5-4 win on Saturday and 26 saves in a 4-1 win on Sunday.
Named the ECHL Saver of the Month for October and under contract to Iowa of
the American Hockey League, the 25-year-old is 7-0-0 and leads the league
in wins, minutes (470) and saves (245) while he is tied for second in
shutouts (1). Silverthorn, who attended the Dallas Stars Prospects Camp as
well as training camp with Iowa before joining the Steelheads, leads the
league in shootout percentage with 1.000 (7-for-7) and is tied for the lead
with two shootout wins.
In his first professional season in 2005-06, he was 22-14-3 with three
shutouts and a save percentage of .901 while ranking 16th in the league
with a goals-against average of 2.90 in 40 regular season games for Idaho.
He was 1-1 with a goals-against average of 2.49 and a save percentage of
.924 in four Kelly Cup Playoff games for the Steelheads.
He played four seasons at Colgate University where he was 55-30-9 with
eight shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.22 and a save percentage of
.914 in 100 career games from 2001-05.
