FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne Mad Ants edged the Iowa Wolves, 105-103, on Friday night at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Chris Silva of Iowa (4-5) recorded his fourth-straight double-double with a season-high 32 points and 18 rebounds. Brian Bowen II tallied his third consecutive double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Sampson had 19 points off the bench.
After trailing for the entire game, Sampson's three with 3:53 left in the game gave the Wolves their first lead at 91-90. But the Mad Ants answered with a layup by Terry Taylor to take the lead at 92-91 and they would stretch out their lead to eight points with 32.2 seconds to go.
Iowa didn't quit as Sampson made another three to pull within three points with 4.4 seconds left and the score 105-102. After a quick foul and two missed free throws by the Mad Ants, Silva was fouled with 1.4 seconds, he made the first free throw and missed the second. However, Justin Anderson rebounded the miss and the clock ran out as Iowa's comeback attempt fell just short.
Fort Wayne (6-3) was led in scoring by Gabe York's team-high 29 points helped by seven three-pointers. Taylor added 28 points.
The teams close the series Saturday night with a rematch at 6 p.m. CT.
