Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (May 29, 2015) - The Texas Rangers announced on Thursday that former RoughRider Hanser Alberto was promoted from Triple-A Round Rock and added to the Major League 25-man roster. When he makes his Major League debut, he will become the 130th former Frisco player to earn a place on a big league roster.
Alberto, a six-year pro, played 42 games for the Express, making 37 appearances at shortstop. The 22-year old hit .303 with two home runs and 13 RBI. Of his 46 hits, 11 went for extra bases and his 19 runs scored were fourth most on the team.
The Rangers signed Alberto as a non-drafted free agent in 2009, and he spent parts of two seasons with the RoughRiders. Alberto was assigned to Frisco out of spring training in 2013 and played 100 games with the Riders. The right-hander scored 37 runs and produced 14 extra base hits while collecting 40 RBI.
The Dominican Republic native played 50 games with Frisco in 2014, hitting .275. In 150 games with the RoughRiders, Alberto hit .234 with 12 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 55 RBI and 60 runs scored. He was selected as the organization's 2014 Minor League Defender of the Year and was named the Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner for all minor league shortstops. For his career, Alberto owns a .278 clip over 522 minor league games.
He joins an extensive list of former RoughRiders on Major League rosters. There were 33 former RoughRiders on the Opening Day active rosters of 16 different MLB teams this season, highlighted by the big league debuts of 2014 Frisco players Keone Kela and Odubel Herrera. In addition to those two and Alberto, former Rider Wilfredo Boscan was promoted to the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this month, but did not appear in a game before being reassigned to Triple-A.
