Peoria Rough Riders News Release

Former Peoria Pirates standout Lincoln Dupree earned U.S. Army Ironman of the Week honors for Week 6 of the Arena Football League season, the AFL announced today. Dupree is the first former af2 player to win an AFL weekly award this season.

Dupree (5-11, 190, Eastern Michigan), who is in his rookie AFL season, helped lead the New York Dragons (3-2) to a 40-35 victory over the defending champion Tampa Bay Storm (2-4) on Sunday. The 2002 af2 Rookie of the Year tallied two receptions for 28 yards and two touchdowns on offense, 1.5 total tackles and a fumble recovery on defense, and a 55-yard kickoff return and a 38-yard missed-field-goal return for two additional touchdowns. This marks the first time that the former Eagle has earned an AFL weekly honor.

Dupree was a key component to the Pirates' success in 2002, leading the team to an ArenaCup championship. The backbone of the Pirates secondary, Dupree led the team in total tackles (80.5), interceptions (13), pass break-ups (17) and passes defended (30). He tied an af2 record for most interceptions in a game (4) against the Quad City Steemwheelers on June 1, and finished second during the season with 13 interceptions, which tied for third all-time in the af2. In addition to his attributes defensively, Dupree finished tied for tops in the league in kick return touchdowns (8) and tenth in kick return average (24.6). He also ranked seventh in field goal returns (18.3) adding another touchdown. His eight kick return touchdowns in a season tied an af2 record.

Slated to play for the Chicago Rush in 2003, Dupree suffered a knee injury prior to training camp and missed the entire 2003 season. The Rush waived Dupree following the 2003 season and he signed as a free agent with New York in December.
