Illinois native to take snaps for 2006 Rough Riders

March 21, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Peoria Rough Riders News Release

Omaha, NE- The Rough Riders have signed on former Eastern Illinois and Wisconsin stand-out quarterback, Matt Schabert. Schabert is an Illinois native and should fit in well with Peoria's offensive style. He finished his collegiate career at Eastern Illinois by completing 190 of 311 passes for a completion percentage of 61 and 15 touchdowns in his senior year. Despite finishing 6-9 in 2005, the Rough Riders are a legendary operation. Peoria has taken two National Championships in two different leagues, the Indoor Football League in 2000 and the af2 in 2002. New head coach and former assistant, Chuck Goodwin, looks to restore that winning tradition and bring the United Bowl II trophy to Peoria. Goodwin's plan is to do this with one simple motto, "Take Care of Business."

With a traditionally strong program; Goodwin, will continue to stress a solid defense. Last season the Roughriders recorded 31 quarterback sacks and allowed only 37 points a game, both were ranked third best in the UIF. The Rough Riders led the league in Red Zone Defense by stopping 66.7 percent of their opponent's attempts at scoring.
