Blitz Training Camp Starts Thursday

Bakersfield, CA - The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 are preparing to open Training Camp 2004 officially on Wednesday, March 17th. Camp will last until Thursday, April 1st.

On March 17th, a training camp roster featuring 35 players will have meetings and physicals. They will hit the field on Thursday, March 18th for their first on-field practice. During camp, the roster will be trimmed to 30 players by Saturday, March 20th. By the start of the season, the roster must be at a maximum of 21 players, as af2 rules allow for 19 active players on the roster, with two available injury spots. A complete roster we be available on Wednesday.

The Blitz official training camp facility is the Police Activities League Recreation Center, located at 301 E. 4th Street. On Thursday, the squad will take the field starting at 4:30pm. All practices from Monday through Friday will be held at 5:00pm. Double sessions are planned for Saturdays and Sundays, with the first starting at 9:00am and the afternoon session beginning at 3:00pm.

"The next two weeks are extremely important," said Blitz Head Coach Rick Van Horne. "We have some talented players lined up for each position and jobs are tight. We have to get down to 21 guys in just 11 days and prepare for the opening of the season less than a month away. We're looking forward to having a competitive camp."

Kickoff for the Blitz season is just 20 days away, as they start on the road against Tennessee Valley on April 3rd. Season tickets for the Blitz upcoming season start at just $63, and are on sale now by contacting the Blitz office at 716-BLITZ (2548) or by stopping by the Bakersfield Sports Entertainment office located at Centennial Garden. The Blitz and Condors have also teamed up for special discounts for those purchasing ticket packages for both teams. All Condors season ticket holders that have renewed for 2004-05 can receive 25% off a Blitz package containing the same number of seats.
