APPLEBEE'S PARK (Lexington, KY) - Former Lexington Legends third baseman Brooks Conrad will make his major league debut tonight for the Oakland Athletics. The utility infielder got the call-up from Triple-A Sacramento, after the Athletics designated infielder Donnie Murphy for assignment.

Conrad played 38 games for the Legends in 2003 after being selected by the Houston Astros in the 2001 amateur draft. Conrad was an 8th-round selection out of Arizona State, where he was considered one of the top defensive infielders in the country. He was quickly moved to Salem after 10 of his first 26 at-bats were extra-base hits.

Age 23 at the time of his promotion, Conrad stayed in the Astros organization until 2007, his final year with Triple-A Round Rock. This past off-season, Conrad signed on with the Oakland Athletics as a six-year Minor League free agent with the A's. According to reports, he opened some eyes with a strong spring, earning a trip to Toyko for Oakland's season-opening series against the Red Sox.

He was inactive for the games against Boston and opened the season with Sacramento, where he was batting .242 with a .321 on-base percentage, 21 doubles, 21 homers and 67 RBIs in 93 games for the River Cats.
