Lexington Legends News Release

APPLEBEE'S PARK (Lexington, KY) - Four runs that came across in the third and fourth innings were too much for Lexington to overcome in a 5-2 defeat, Tuesday evening. Lexington had visions of a possible comeback for the second straight day, after plating a run in the bottom of the fourth, but reliever Justin Garcia mowed down the Legends lineup in his three innings of relief work, limiting the Legends to no-hits in 3 innings of work, striking out five Legends batters.

Starter Jeremy Hall (5-3) recorded the victory, going six innings, giving up just 8 hits and two earned runs. Lexington plated both of its runs from RBI's by third baseman Matt Cusick, who drove home leadoff man Craig Corrado in the fourth after Corrado tripled to lead off the inning, with a sacrifice fly. In the sixth, Cusick would plate Corrado again on an RBI double off the wall in right-center, to get the Legends within three runs. They would get no further.

Lexington starter Jacob Leonhardt (3-10) ran into trouble early, giving up back-to-back singles to start the third inning, before Shawn O'Malley drove in the game's first run on a sacrifice fly. Reid Fronk would follow with an RBI double to score Maiko Loyola for the games' second run to give the Catfish the early advantage. After Quinn Stewart led off the fourth with a walk, Stephen Vogt would add another run across on an RBI double which scored the speedster from first to quickly add a third run to the scoreboard. Vogt would come around to score before the inning concluded, leaving the Legends a four-run deficit to overcome.

Unlike yesterday's contest, Columbus would get some insurance runs across, as Michael McCormick would add his eight home-run off of Leonhardt in the sixth, before Leonhardt would be pulled in favor of Reid Kelly, who ran through the Columbus' lineup in his 2+ plus innings of work. It was McCormick's second home run in as many games for the Columbus Catfish. Legends pitcher Jordan Powell would add a scoreless ninth for the Legends bullpen, which did not allow a run for the second straight game.

Tomorrow marks the end of the home-stand for the Legends, who will head for Delmarva and Hagerstown for an 8-game roadtrip on Thursday's off-day. Lexington will send Leandro Cespedes to the bump versus Jesse Darcey, a former teammate of Jonathan Fixler in summer ball.
