Hagerstown Suns News Release
GREENVILLE, SC -The Hagerstown Suns (14-18) did not have any answers for the Greenville Drive (15-17) on Tuesday, losing 7-1 at Fluor Field.
Hagerstown got off to a good start, scoring in the top of the first inning as Jesus Valdez drove in Mark Gildea with two outs to give the Suns the lead. However, Drive starter Chad Povich (7-3) settled in after the first and did not allow another run in six innings of work to get the win.
The Drive responded in the bottom of the second inning, scoring twice of Suns starter Colton Willems. A lead-off double, followed by two singles and a throwing error made the game 2-1 after one full inning.
The scoring slowed down after the first, though Greenville added single runs in the second and fourth innings of Willems (5-7). In all, the right hander allowed four runs, two earned on seven hits with five strikeouts in five innings of work.
In the top of the sixth inning, reliever Ryan Harrison came on for Hagerstown and gave up one run in two innings of work on a solo home run by right fielder Jered Stanley. Justin Phillabaum pitched the eighth inning for the Suns and gave up two more Greenville runs including a solo shot by David Marks on the first pitch of the inning.
Lance McClain worked the final three innings for Greenville without allowing a run. The left hander allowed two hits and a walk to earn a save in his first appearance of 2008.
The Suns and Drive will play the finale of their four game series on Wednesday, July 23rd at 11:05 a.m.
