Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - Former Grizzlies defenseman Keith Ballard has advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals with the Vancouver Canucks.

Ballard looks to represent former Grizzlies on the Stanley Cup for the third time in six years. Ray Whitney won the NHL championship in 2006 with Carolina while Scott Niedermayer and Ric Jackman earned the prestigious trophy in 2007 with Anaheim.

Ballard, a defenseman, played with Utah during his rookie season of 2004-2005 totaling two goals and 18 assists for 20 points in 60 games. He has since amassed 462 NHL games with Phoenix, Florida and Vancouver. This season marks his first-ever playoff appearance.

One other local tie of note to this year's Stanley Cup Final features the Head Coaches. Vancouver's Alain Vigneault and Boston's Claude Julien were teammates on the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in 1981-82 and 1982-83.
