Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League are proud to announce that former Bucks forward Andrew Desjardins made his National Hockey League debut Tuesday night for the San Jose Sharks.

The 24-year-old Desjardins was a finalist for the 2007-08 CHL Rookie of the Year with the Bucks. That season Desjardins put up 59 points (22-3759) with a plus-21 rating in 64 games for the Bucks. Of Desjardins' 59 points that season 20 came on special teams. He also picked up four game-winning goals that campaign.

Desjardins became the first Sharks player and just the second NHL player ever to wear number 69 in a game Tuesday night.

"To see a guy who played here in Laredo make it to the NHL is truly awesome," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "Andrew had a lot of talent back in the 2007-08 season and he's obviously improved a lot to get the call up to the NHL. We are very proud of him and wish him the best there. It also says a lot about the Bucks organization. We are extremely happy that one of our former players jumped to the NHL after playing in Laredo. One of our goals is to promote players and when we do help out it's a great feeling."

Desjardins played in 34 games for Worcester (AHL) this season, posting 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in addition to 42 penalty minutes. In 2009-10, he amassed 46 points (19 goals, 27 assists) in 80 games for Worcester. His 126 penalty minutes and plus-29 rating ranked him second on the team in both categories last season.

The six-foot-one, 200-pound native of Lively, Ontario was signed as a free agent by San Jose on June 26, 2010.
