Ford Wins Player Of The Month

(Central Islip, N.Y., September 3, 2009) - Former Long Island Ducks outfielder Lew Ford has been named Atlantic League Player of the Month for August. Ford hit .475 with five home runs, six doubles, two triples and 17 RBI in the month.

Ford was rewarded for his hot play on August 24 when he was signed by the Cincinnati Reds organization and assigned to their Triple-A affiliate, Louisville of the International League. Ford became the sixth Duck in 2009 to sign with an affiliated club.

The Texas native hit 10 homers and two triples with 55 RBI in 93 games for the Ducks. The 33-year-old was leading the AL in hitting at the time of his signing, fourth in the league in doubles (26) and fifth in runs (77) and on-base percentage (.407). The former big leaguer had also reached base in 40 consecutive contests, while riding a 13-game hitting streak.

Ford played five seasons with the Minnesota Twins from 2003- 2007. He owns a career .272 average with 32 home runs, 80 doubles, 10 triples and 47 stolen bases in the big leagues. His best season came in 2004 when he set career highs with a .292 average, 15 home runs, 31 doubles, 170 hits, 72 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
