Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., September 3, 2009) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the acquisition of pitcher Drew Shetrone from the Joliet JackHammers of the Northern League in exchange for future considerations. The 24-year-old went 3-1 with a 2.68 ERA in 48 games.

"You can't have too many quality pitchers, especially in a heated wild-card race," says Ducks manager Gary Carter. "Drew has been a consistent pitcher wherever he has been and we're glad to have him join our club."

The Florida native plays in his fourth year in professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. The right hander was originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 33rd round of the 2006 draft. That year he pitched in 19 games for Casper (R, Rockies), where he struck out 43 batters in 41 and two-thirds innings.

Shetrone's best season came in 2007 when he spilt time between South Georgia and Macon of the South Coast League, combining for a 5-3 record, with a 2.67 ERA in 34 games. Last season he started the year with Joilet, posting a 1-1 record with a 2.93 ERA and six saves. His efforts helped him earn a promotion to the Yankees organization, appearing in 22 games for Staten Island (A), posting a 2-2 record with a 2.41 ERA.

The Long Island Ducks play their home games at Citibank Park and play in their 10th Anniversary Season in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. For further information, visit www.liducks.com, or call 631-940-3825.
