Camden Riversharks News Release
The Camden Riversharks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs tonight, by a final score of 4-3. Camden starter Josh Brey (7-7) picked up the win, as he allowed just 1 run on 7 hits in 7 innings of work. Southern Maryland's Keith Ramsey (5-3) suffered the loss, as he gave up 4 runs and 7 hits in 7 innings pitched. With the win, the Riversharks' season tally improves to 24-29, while the Blue Crabs' falls to 31-20.
The Riversharks got off to a fast start in this game, and took a quick lead in the first inning. With a runner in scoring position, shortstop Bryant Nelson lined a double to left, scoring Chris Walker and giving Camden a 1-0 lead. The Blue Crabs would respond in the 4th inning and tie the game at 1-1, courtesy of a single by first baseman Michael Tucker that allowed James Shanks to score from second.
The Sharks would bring two more runs across the plate in the 5th inning, and recapture the lead. With two runners in scoring position, center fielder Wayne Lydon singled to left, scoring Brett Bonvechio and John Purdom to give the home team a 3-1 advantage. They would tack on one more run the following inning, as Bonvechio's ground out plated left fielder Garrett Guzman.
Southern Maryland would rally in the 8th inning, and make it a one run game. With the bases loaded, center fielder Jeremy Owens blooped a single into left field, driving in Tucker and Shanks, and making the score 4-3 in favor of the Riversharks. The runs scored were Owens' 74th and 75th RBIs of the season.
With a one run lead heading into the 9th inning, the Sharks put the ball in the hand of closer Chris Shaver, who retired the side and preserved the 4-3 victory for Camden. The save was his 7th of the year.
Next up, the Riversharks will hit the road for a three game series against the Newark Bears. They will return to Campbell's Field on Monday, September 7th, to kick off a three game series against the York Revolution. Limited seating for the game is still available.
