
Ford Drives Texas To A 2-0 Win Over San Antonio

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (22-13-2-4, 50 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (17-17-3-2, 39 points) 2-0 on Tuesday night in front of 3,852 fans at Cedar Park Center. Stars goalie Todd Ford (1-0-1) recorded his first AHL shutout with 36 saves, leading Texas to its 11th home win. Center Aaron Gagnon and defenseman Garrett Stafford each tallied two assists, improving the Stars record to 5-2-0-0 against San Antonio in the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff. Texas winger Sergei Korostin and defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy each scored in the shutout. Rampage goalie Justin Pogge (4-4-1) stopped 22 of 24 Texas shots in the defeat. The Stars will host the Toronto Marlies on Friday, January 15th at 7:30 PM.
The Texas Stars scored the only goal of the opening period with a power-play tally 10:31 into the game. Defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy ripped a slap shot from the blueline, the puck deflected off traffic and past San Antonio goalie Justin Pogge for the 1-0 Stars lead. Vishnevskiy's sixth goal of the season was set up by Garrett Stafford and Ray Sawada.
After a scoreless middle period, the Stars extended their lead to 2-0 at 6:32 of the third period. Right wing Sergei Korostin tipped in a pass from Aaron Gagnon in the Rampage crease, beating Justin Pogge on the stickside. Korostin's 10th goal of the season sealed the 2-0 shutout over San Antonio.
The Stars will host the Toronto Marlies at 7:30 PM on Friday, Jan. 15. The first 2,000 fans receive a Texas Stars Fleece Blanket. Also, fans will be able to purchase $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. Texas will travel to Cleveland for back-to-back games against the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 PM and then again on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 12:00 PM.
