
Force's Bergeron and Lee named to 2005 All-Rookie Team

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA, May 24, 2005 â The Arena Football League announced today that the Georgia Force rookie tandem of offensive specialist Troy Bergeron and wide receiver/linebacker Derek Lee were both selected to the 2005 All-Rookie team. This season both players etched their names into the League record books setting new rookie single-season receiving marks helping the Force win their first Southern Division title.
Tagged "Thunder and Lighting", the duo finished the regular season with the most receiving touchdowns of any combo in the AFL this year combining for 64 receiving scores.
Bergeron (6-2, 180, Middle Tennessee State) is the youngest player in the AFL at 21 years old. He ended the season with 105 receptions for 1,370 yards and 31 touchdowns. His 1,370 receiving yards set new League single-season record (1,335 by Oronde Gadsden- Portland, 1998), while his 105 catches are tied for 2nd all-time in a single-season for a rookie.
Lee (6-5, 215, Tennessee Tech) ended the regular season with a team-high 113 receptions for 1,234 yards and a team-high 33 touchdowns. His 113 catches established a new rookie single-season mark (105 by Mike Baker- St. Louis, 1996 & 105 by Troy Bergeron- Georgia, 2005).
The AFL Rookie of the Year will be announced on Wednesday, June 1st.
