Two VooDoo rookies receive recognition

New Orleans VooDoo OL/DL Mike Landry and DS Alvin Porter were named to the Arena Football League's 2005 All-Rookie team, it was announced by the league today. In placing two rookies on the team, the VooDoo was tied with the Georgia Force for the second highest number of first-year players placed on the 12-man squad.

Landry, (6-3, 308, Southern) completed his first AFL season after spending part of the 2003 season with the San Francisco 49ers and emerged as the team's biggest surprise on the line, starting at nose guard in all 15 games he appeared in. Landry recorded 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks for -11 yards, 3.5 tackles for a loss, a team-high three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Landry displayed his playmaking abilities as he finished second among AFL rookies in combined tackles for a loss (6) and was tied for first in forced fumbles.

Porter, (5-11, 175, Oklahoma State) completed his first AFL season with the VooDoo after spending three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Porter was one of his team's leading tacklers, finishing with 56 tackles, one tackle for a loss, one interception and nine passes defensed. Porter finished third on the VooDoo in tackles and second in passes defensed.
