Columbus Destroyers News Release

COLUMBUS, OH – Pete Costanza, who has spent the past two seasons as the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator for the AFL's Columbus Destroyers, announced his resignation Monday and has been named Head Coach/Director of Football Operations of the af2's Albany Conquest.

Costanza joined the Destroyers' coaching staff in 2004 prior to the team's inaugural season. He came to Columbus after one season at the helm in Albany (2003). Costanza, who owns a 17-16 career record as a head coach in arenafootball2, landed his first head coaching job in 2002 with the now-defunct Columbus (GA) Wardogs before joining the Conquest the following season. The New Jersey native's previous coaching stops include stints with the AFL's New Jersey Red Dogs (1997-99), the af2's Roanoke Steam (2000) and af2's Iowa Barnstormers (2001).

The Destroyers, under first-year head coach Chris Spielman, concluded their second season in Columbus on Sunday. The Destroyers finished the 2005 season fourth in the AFL in attendance, averaging 15,229 fans per game in eight home contests at Nationwide Arena. In addition, the Destroyers became one of only two teams in the league to draw over 250,000 fans combined during the past two years (Philadelphia).
