AFL announces 2005 All-Rookie Team

May 24, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release


NEW YORK – The Nashville Kats led the way with three selections, while the Georgia Force, who earned the top seed in the National Conference with a League-best 11-5 record, and New Orleans VooDoo added two selections each to the 2005 All-Rookie team.

Leading the rookie squad is Georgia's "Thunder and Lighting" combo of WR/LB DEREK LEE and OS TROY BERGERON, who set rookie marks for receptions (113) and receiving yards (1,372), respectively. Nashville's trio of FB/LB DAN ALEXANDER, OL/DL AARON MC CONNELL and OL/DL JOE MINUCCI earned selections by combining for 53.5 tackles and 9.5 sacks.

Other All-Rookie honorees include Dallas Desperados QB CLINT STOERNER – who shattered rookie records for passing yards (3,918), touchdowns (77), attempts (506), and completions (322) – and New York Dragons DS BILLY PARKER, who led the League in interceptions (10).

The Rookie of the Year will be announced on Wednesday, June 1. The All-Arena First and Second teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 25. Following is the 2005 All-Rookie team:
