Las Vegas, Nev-The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Bakersfield Condors Friday night at the Orleans Arena in front of 4,524. Five different players tallied for the Wranglers in the win as Joe Fallon turned away 25 of 28, including a penalty shot, and improved his record to 13-7-1. Blair Riley was awarded the first star of the night to go along with his one goal and two assists. Michael Gergen and Jean-Fran=E7ois David scored the three goals for the Condors in the loss. The Condors started the game with Brian Stewart in net but he was pulled by Head Coach Marty Raymond after giving up three goals on twelve shots. Josh Tordjman will record the loss as he allowed one goal on eighteen shots and falls to 13-10-1. Both teams tallied on the power play as Las Vegas had five opportunities while Bakersfield earned three of their own. With the loss Bakersfield continues on a two-game losing streak and falls to 20-18-1. The win increases the Wranglers' lead in the Pacific division as they now sit at 51 total points with an overall record of 24-10-3 and a 2-2 record against the Condors.
Las Vegas opened the scoring with a power play goal at 13:11 of the first period with Blair Riley's eighth goal of the season assisted by Barry Goers and Sean McMonagle. The Wranglers extended their lead at 19:13 of the first period with Colin Long's sixth goal of the season assisted by Justin Bernhardt. After one period the Wranglers were on top 2-0 and had tallied on the power play, but were outshout 8-7.
Bakersfield answered back in the second period with the first two goals to tie the game back up. Michael Gergen tallied his first goal of the night at 4:14 of the second period to bring Bakersfield back within one, assists going to Brad Snetsinger and Joel Broda. Jean-Francois David tied the game up at 9:36 of the second period while on the power play. David skated in on the near side and beat Joe Fallon with a backhand just inside the post assisted by Las Vegas native, Adam Naglich. The Condors had just tied the game, but Las Vegas came back with another two goals to end the second period. Greg Collins tallied his twelfth goal of the season at 10:58 assisted by another Las Vega native, Eddie DelGrosso, and Blair Riley to take the lead back for Las Vegas. Blake Gallagher put the Wranglers back up by two at 17:22 of the second period with his seventh goal of the season assisted by Blair Riley. After two periods the Wranglers were still by two goals, 4-2, and had overtaken the Condors in shots with 22 to 17.
The Condors would make the third period interesting by tallying the first goal of the final frame and bringing themselves back within one. Michael Gergen netted his second goal of the contest at 8:19 of the third period assisted by Brad Snetsinger and Joel Broda, the same two that assisted on Gergen's first of the night. The Condors cut the deficit to one with more than half of the final frame to play setting up a potential overtime bid as they pulled goalie Josh Tordjman twice for the extra attacker. Chris Higgins and the Wranglers did not allow the Condors to tie the game, but instead added an empty net goal at 18:59 to seal their fourth consecutive win.
Las Vegas hosts Bakersfield again tomorrow night and Sunday afternoon at the Orleans Arena to complete their three-game set for this weekend. After Sunday's afternoon game the fans can skate with the Wranglers on the rink.
