Alaska Aces News Release

Former Aces forward Ryan MacMurchy had two goals and goaltender David Shantz stopped 27 of 28 shots to lead the Victoria Salmon Kings past the Alaska Aces 4-1 on Friday night from the Sullivan Arena. The Aces fell to 21-15-2 on the year, and saw their 11-game home point streak come to a close. The Aces have lost a season-long, six straight games, and will look to exact revenge on Saturday night in a rematch with the Salmon Kings. Tickets are still available for the game at 7:15pm. Fans can visit the Aces at their Facebook page for more information, or call the Aces at 907.258.ACES.

The Salmon Kings tallied twice in the first period to open the scoring. MacMurchy scored first at 8:27 from the right circle to make it 1-0. Then Rick Cleaver added a goal at 14:28, moments after Aces netminder Gerald Coleman had robbed him on the doorstep with an acrobatic save. Cleaver's goal gave the Kings a 2-0 lead after the first period.

The Aces reduced the deficit in the second period, when Wes Goldie scored his first ever goal against the Salmon Kings, where he had played and been a fan favorite the last four seasons. Goldie got his own rebound at the low slot and backhanded it in at 7:55 on a power play to make it a one-goal game. However, just 43 seconds later, Rob Hennigar scored to make it 3-1 Salmon Kings. The Aces hit two posts in closing minutes of the second period, and could not get any closer.

Alaska continued to knock on the door in the third period, outshooting Victoria 10-5, but Shantz closed the door and MacMurchy added an empty net goal at 18:37 to ice the game for Victoria.

Gerald Coleman (16-10-1) made 18 saves on 21 shots, taking the loss. David Shantz (13-14-3) earned the win, making 27 saves on 28 shots. The Aces power play went 1-4, while the Salmon Kings went 0-4. The Aces outshot the Kings 28-22 in the game.

The Aces and Kings return to the Sully on Saturday night for a rematch, as Alaska continues their five-game home stand. Tickets are available for all games. Fans can visit the Aces at their Facebook page for more information, or call the Aces at 907.258.ACES. Tickets can also be purchased through the Aces website at www.alaskaaces.com.
