Flyers to Hold Reading Timeout at Boys & Girls Club

FORT WORTH, Texas, January 9, 2007 - The Fort Worth Flyers All-Star Reading Team will visit the Butler Branch of the Boys & Girls Club on Wednesday, January 10 at 4 p.m. The branch is located at 1800 I.M.Terrell Circle North, Fort Worth, TX 76102.

During the afternoon, select Flyers players will read with youth and discuss the importance of academic achievement. The players will also sign autographs for the group.

Read to Achieve is the community relations centerpiece and the primary educational program of the Fort Worth Flyers. A league-wide initiative among the NBA, WNBA and D-League, the program focuses on helping youth establish a love for reading and gain an understanding of the value and importance of literacy.

As part of the program, the Flyers participated in a Welcome Back to School celebration that included greeting students as they returned back to school and encouraging their academic performance. During Read to Achieve Week in November, the team hosted a Read to Achieve Day event for local youth that encourage reading and literacy. Throughout the year the Flyers will hold Reading Timeouts at schools, community centers, libraries and other such locations.
