The Flyers avoided a last inning meltdown and won a heated contest 7-5 over Yuma to sweep the doubleheader at Goodwin Field.
Mark Okano keyed a Flyers offense that pounded out 12 hits and seven runs in a game that featured a beanball war and two ejections. The Flyers moved within 1.5 games of first place Yuma with the 7-5 win.
Nate Holguin pitched the Flyers within an out of a complete game, but he needed Brandon Thompson to rescue the game in the final inning.
Yuma rallied for four runs in the last frame, but Mikael Jova lined out to Bret Levier to end the contest.
Okano went 3-for-3 with two doubles and Dave Bacani added his second three-hit game of the day.
Eric Maydew was ejected in the 6th inning for hitting Scott Goodman with a pitch and Manager Mike Marshall was also ejected on the play.
Buddy Morales came through with a pinch-hit two-run triple to provide important insurance runs.
The Flyers and Scorpions will finish the five-game series at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
