
Hornets Assign Vinicius to Tulsa 66ers

TULSA, Okla., Jan. 9, 2007 - The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets announced today that they have assigned rookie forward Marcus Vinicius to the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League. Tulsa has been designated as the Hornets D-League affiliate for the 2006-07 season.
"Marcus has shown a great deal of promise throughout the season on the practice floor," said Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower. "Assigning him to the D-League will allow him to receive the game experience that is crucial to his development as a professional, while allowing us to continue to monitor his development."
Vinicius, who was drafted by the Hornets in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2006 NBA Draft, has averaged 1.4 points in eight games this season. He will continue to be included on the Hornets' roster but will remain on the team's Inactive List for the duration of his time with Tulsa.
The 12th NBA player assigned to a D-League affiliate this season, Vinicius is the first player assigned to the 66ers. In all, 38 players have been assigned by 23 NBA teams since the assignment system was put into place prior to the 2005-06 season.
