Florence Takes First with Blowout Win, Evansville Loss on Thursday Night

MARION, Ill. - With multi-run innings in the third, fourth and sixth to take a 9-0 win over the Southern Illinois Miners and an Evansville Otters loss, the Florence Y'alls have regained first place in the Frontier League West Division.
Florence scattered ten hits, including each of the first three batters in the lineup reaching base four four times in five plate appearance. Designated hitter Jose Brizuela and shortstop Luis Pintor each scored three times and third baseman Chad Sedio scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
On the mound, Frank Valentino dominated in five innings, allowing just two hits without giving up a run. Valentino earned his third win of the season. Relievers Pablo Arevalo, Jose Diaz, and Andrew McDonald all followed with a combined four shutout innings.
The Y'alls swept the Miners and improved to 11-4 against the Frontier League West Division rival on the 2021 season, including a 6-3 record at Rent One Park in Marion.
With the win and Evansville's loss to Joliet, Florence takes a .5 game lead in the Frontier League West Division with three games to play. The Y'alls head home for a three-game series against the Schaumburg Boomers to finish the regular season.
